The region of Sooke Harbour takes its name from the T'Sou-ke native people, the first inhabitants of the area. The area's traditional industries have been logging and fishing. Today, tourism has become an important factor in the economy of the region, as increasing numbers of visitors from all over the world discover the south-west beaches and many hiking trails.
